We’ll tell you what the job needs
Jesse and the team know how New York buildings are put together, and they’ll tell you plainly what your project needs. If something doesn’t need replacing, we say so.
You get a written estimate that shows what’s included and what isn’t, and any change is priced and agreed before it’s built. We deal with your architect, your building and the city so you don’t have to.
We never cut corners. The work behind the walls gets the same care as the finishes you see.

Run by the Cheung family
David Cheung started King Kong in the 1980s. His son Jesse runs it today, with experienced project managers, skilled crews and a dedicated office staff.
Most of our work comes from clients who hire us again and recommend us to friends. We’ve never had to advertise, so if you’re reading this, someone probably sent you.
Jesse is a committed environmentalist who builds sustainably and cuts waste wherever he can.

Want a second opinion?
We’re happy to look over your plans or your project and tell you what we think.
We’ve worked on every kind of New York building for decades. We often spot what others miss, and we look for the practical, cost-effective fix.
What we take care of
Project management, crews, materials and permits, all run from our Brooklyn office.
- Your architect’s plans
- We build them as drawn. If you need an architect, we’ll recommend one we trust.
- A project manager on every job
- One person runs the schedule, permits, inspections and deliveries, and keeps you posted.
- Crews and specialists
- Our own full-time crews do most of the work, and we bring in specialists we trust for the rest. Because we also run a construction and plumbing supply store, we see firsthand which specialists buy quality materials and who’s been around for the long haul.
- Permits and sign-offs
- We’re licensed with the Department of Buildings and handle the filings, inspections and sign-offs.
- Smart home and wiring
- We work with experienced smart home and networking installers, so the wiring is planned before the walls close.
- Less waste
- We salvage and reuse what we can and suggest efficient systems, like heat pumps and tankless water heaters, where they make sense. We’ll also point you to rebates that can help with the cost.

Brands we work with
We know these brands well and buy them efficiently.
Good to know
Can I see your work?
Yes. We keep client projects private online, but we’ll put you in touch with references and, where clients agree, arrange for you to see finished work in person.
Is my job too small?
No. We’re happy to take on a punch list or a single room, as well as full gut renovations.
Do you work with my architect or designer?
Yes. We’ve built for some of the top architects and interior designers in New York, and we’re happy to work with anyone. Architects like that we ask questions early and build their drawings as drawn, down to the small details.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes, plenty. We’ve built out med spas and salons, Pilates studios, a long list of coffee bars and restaurants, shops and offices. Give us a call to talk it through.
Where do you work?
All five boroughs of New York City and Nassau County on Long Island, where we’re also licensed. Our office is in Brooklyn.
How does pricing work?
After a site visit, we give you a detailed written estimate with the scope, allowances and exclusions spelled out. We also own a construction and plumbing supply store in Park Slope, so we buy materials efficiently.
